Natural resources and agriculture

In this area of work, the Centre conducts research on improving technologies for preventing land degradation, developing innovative methods to improve soil fertility and agricultural plant productivity. In particular, the studies cover the following topics:

  • Evaluation of the impact of humic preparations on growth, crop yields and agricultural quality;
  • Improvement of plant protection systems against phytopatogenic micro-organisms, including assessment of plant pathogens and their resistance to fungicides, development of original polymerase chain reaction test systems (PCR) For the identification of phytophotic mushrooms;
  • Development of polymer complexes for optimizing soil functions (moisture conservation, structural condition, increase of erosion resistance) in order to accelerate growth and development of crops, reduce water costs for irrigation, and increase seed growth;
  • Establishment and support of a soil information system for the Eurasian region, including training seminars on the organization of regional soil data centres, development and improvement of soil description standards and their implementation in programme products;
  • Development and promotion of an agricultural soil monitoring system in the context of sustainable land management in the Eurasian region;
  • Analysis of micro-nutrient soil availability and development of approaches to addressing Hidden Hunger In the Eurasian region, with a view to developing policies to improve the micronutrient composition of fodder and livestock products in order to improve the quality of food products and reduce the risk of local people becoming ill from a lack of minerals;
  • Assessment of the impact of climate risks on crop yields and their mitigation through long-term fertilizer field experiments;
  • Optimization of fertilizer application systems for bata crops in the Eurasian region;
  • Geospatial analysis of the transport systems of the Eurasian region;
  • Improvement of the methodology for the remote detection of crops on the basis of hyperspectral data;
  • Development of methods for optimizing agricultural storage and reducing losses.
