Maria Konyushkova (PhD (Agriculture) joined the Eurasian Center for Food Security as a soil expert since its foundation in 2012. She graduated from the Soil Science faculty of the Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2003. In 2003-2011 she worked at Dokuchaev Soil Science faculty, department of salt-affected soils. The area of her expertise is geography and cartography of salt-affected soils in arid regions, computer-based analysis of space-borne imagery and digital soil mapping.
She organized / was involved in expeditions to the semidesert and desert areas in the south of Russia, Central Asia and Iran (Kalmykia, Dagestan, western Kazakhstan, Xinjiang-Uygur Autonomous region of China, Karakalpakstan of Uzbekistan, Golestan province of Iran). She is an author and co-author of more than 50 peer-reviewed papers and the author of monograph Digital Soil Mapping of Solonetzic Regions in the Northern Caspian Lowland (2014). Since 2013, she vigorously participates in the activity of the subregional Eurasian Soil Partnership. Since 2018, Maria is an expert of the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils (ITPS) of the FAO Global Soil Partnership.
